Day 1: WELCOME TO CUSCO
Meet and greet service on arrival at Cusco Airport is followed by transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day is free at leisure to get to know the city.
CITY TOUR CUSCO – SACSAYHUAMAN AND ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES In the afternoon at 13:00, enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, which was the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour starts with a visit to Santo Domingo Convent, a large Renaissance-baroque complex, which was built over the Inca Qoricancha temple. It was one of the most important temples dedicated to the worship of the sun and its foundations are still prominent at the base of the convent. Ancient chronicles say the temple was covered in gold leaf and filled with golden representations of nature. Continue to the Plaza de Armas to visit the cathedral. It features an elaborate Renaissance façade and, like other important monuments in the city, was built over a demolished Inca temple.
Head to the hills above Cusco to visit the remains of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, whose imposing ramparts offer a stunning panoramic view of Cusco, the ruins of temple and amphitheater of Qenqo, where it is believed the Incas practiced agricultural rituals. Finally, visit Puka Pukara (‘Red fortress’ in Quechua) an Inca military complex located on a prominent hill. Its dwellings squares, bathrooms, aqueducts, walls and towers can still be appreciated. Day 2: SACRED VALLEY – PISAC – URUBAMBA – OLLANTAYTAMBO
At 07:30am we’ll begin our tour to Sacred Valley of the Incas. We’ll make a stop on route to enjoy an impressive view of the Vilcanota River snaking around the patchwork fields of family crops. Upon arrival at the colorful Pisac town you’ll have free time to interact with locals and artisans and option to purchase souvenirs, then we´ll head to Pisac archaeological complex an impressive building built in the boom period of the Inca Empire. Here we can see the great work achieved by the Incas.
Afterwards we´ll go to Urubamba town, driving along the Vilcanota River, where we´ll stop for a buffet lunch (optional) at local restaurant. Approximately 1 hour after the next stop will be Ollantaytambo which is considered a “living Inca town”. With intact buildings and agricultural terraces. After the amazing time in the sacred valley your departing train is at 19:00 you will need to head to the train station and catch your train to Aguas Calientes, The train trip to Aguas Calientes is just under two hours. Our representatives will meet you just outside the train station, upon arrival and lead you to your hotel. Night in Aguas Calientes
Day 3: MACHU PICCHU
After breakfast at Hotel, it is time to board a coach for a 25-minute ride to Machu Picchu itself. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ had lain abandoned in the heavens for four centuries until American explorer Hiram Bingham happened upon it in 1911. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacutec as a holiday retreat yet within a century the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never found it so it was spared the destruction they wrought on other Inca sites. Instead, it was slowly swallowed up by the jungle and hidden from harm.
A guided tour explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel and the most prominent landmarks among the 200 or so buildings such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds. At the appropriate hour, we’ll descend by bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time for lunch included. Return to Cusco by train and van in the afternoon 16:22 or 18:20 (the train schedule will depend on how far in advance you are booking and/or the availability of the train.) Night in Cusco
Day 4: CUSCO – PUERTO MALDONADO – COCHA CAIMAN
Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, Peru´s Capital City of Biodiversity, we will welcome you at the airport. Then, we´ll start our program with a visit around the city, on a bus. Afterwards, we will go to Puerto Capitanía, to board a motorized riverboat, and we´ll navigate on the Madre de Dios River. During the journey, we will submerge into a fascinating natural environment, if we are lucky we will witness Ronsocos, Caimans, Turtles, Herons, Cormorants and other animal species in their natural environment. Arriving at the Ecoamazonia Lodge, we will enjoy an exquisite welcome drink, we´ll get settled in our bungalows and will have lunch together.
Once satisfied, you will be conducted by our specialized tour guide through an interpretive trail conveniently signposted to the Caimán Cocha, a small lake with an abundant presence of specimens of Black Caiman (Melanosuchus Niger) and Caiman (Caiman Crocodilus). At the end of the evening, you will witness the spectacular sunset in the Amazon, an experience full of intensities overwhelming color ranges. Upon returning to the Lodge, a delicious dinner will await you, and enjoy free time to share unforgettable moments at the bar, equipped with an excellent game room and all the drinks you can imagine.
Day 5: LAGO APU VICTOR – MONKEY ISLAND
The morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. A hearty breakfast will provide the energy for a morning full of new experiences. After breakfast, we´ll start to hike towards the depths of the forest, on trails especially prepared, with bridges to cross gorges and rivers. During the journey we will observe the flooded forest and a variety of Flora and Wildlife, and continuing we´ll get to the majestic Lake Apu Victor with its crystal clear waters, surrounded by marshes and giant trees. Afterwards, we´ll go up to the Observation Deck, from which we´ll enjoy a panoramic view on the lake, observing Parrots, Macaws, Toucans, Camungos, Shanshos, Herons and other animals, such as Caimans, Turtles, etc.,
In the afternoon, accompanied by our specialized guide, we will visit Monkey Island, a unique place in the heart of Madre de Dios River, five minutes away from the Lodge. During the hike, we will observe extraordinary landscapes, with an exuberant flora, sheltering a variety of monkey species, in their natural habitat, such as Maquisapas, Capuchins, Small Lion Monkeys, Frailes, Cotos and other animal species like the Coati and Sloths and a great variety of birds. Finally, we´ll complete our visit of the island, enjoying the sunset, with the most impressive dusk in the jungle. Back to the lodge we conclude the day with a pleasant dinner.
Day 6: LOST COCHA
After breakfast, we will start an adventure in the virgin rainforest, and accompanied by a local guide, we´ll go on a hike in the deep jungle, to get to the Lost Cocha which constitutes a refuge and feeding ecosystem for a huge variety of animals. There, we´ll have the chance to observe Otters, Caimans, Turtles, Sachavacas (Tapirs) Birds with multicolored feathers, the majestic Jaguar and a variety of fish species. This area is unique and proper to the Ecoamazonia´s Ecological Reserve which maintains it intact, with huge swamps and diverse “aguajales”. Then, we´ll get to the extraordinary Observation Deck, from which we´ll be able to appreciate the immense and magical rainforest.
Afterwards, we´ll have a pleasant canoe ride around the lake and will return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we´ll have the opportunity to pay an optional visit to the local Botanical Garden or if you prefer, you´ll have the option to relax around the Pool. In the evening, enjoy our farewell dinner, a fun night at the bar and game room to say goodbye to friends you made during your stay.
Day 7: ECOAMAZONIA – PUERTO MALDONADO – FLIGHT TO LIMA
After a restful night’s sleep, the morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. In our dining room awaits a farewell breakfast before embarking the return to Puerto Maldonado. then flight to Lima.
